Mother's Day

We woke up this morning and decided to go to the playground. We went to a kid's playground in Bullard. We stayed for 3 hours and ate our picnic lunch there too!

A ladybug landed on my shoulder while we were playing.

When we got home we walked across the street to see and play with the dogs. They ended up asking if Chuck wanted to swim. He was in heaven and is really getting to love swimming.

We had a very active and fun day. I'm hoping for early bed times!

Da boys

Smith has been doing all his napping on me since he has been sick. (Which makes for a very dirty house.)

He's also been working on eating lately and is slowly getting better.

Also insisting he be carried or next to mom at all times.

He's been practicing sitting up and rolling over.

Smith also enjoys cuddling with big brother Chuck.

We have been keeping busy after school like playing in the sandbox, riding bikes, taking bubble baths, and looking for fish and frogs.

Smith accompanied me to my hair appointment. We couldn't finish the haircut because he was crying. I look like a 12 year old and hope to find time to go back to finish :)

Chuck has been working on potty training. I have actually decided to just let him potty train himself. This week he woke up and asked to wear big boy undies. He made it 3 days with dry undies at school. The other days he decided he was too tired to worry about making it to the potty so just wore a diaper.

Back tracking

Let's start with last weekend shall we?! Dr. flew to Chicago to take his boards. He was gone four days and came back very confident. It could take up to 90 days to get the results. From here on out, there will be no studying, classes, tested, etc. Just work and life in general! Have we been waiting for this day since the whole medical school track began?!?

Dr. Left Saturday morning. Friday night Chuck came down with a 102 fever. He started a cough a few days earlier. I bribed him into taking Tylenol and within hours the fever was under control and gone. We were still suffering from a cough but I am sure it will take 3 weeks to get rid of.

Saturday Chuck's friend from school had a birthday party. Since his fever had come and gone so quick and since it was a swimming party (and he really wouldn't be getting in close contact with people) I took him anyway. He has always liked the pool but has always refused any type of floatation device. I can tell he is growing up because he put on his swimming turtle without hesitation. He enjoyed swimming so much. I am currently trying to book swim lessons at someone's house (with a group of ladies from school.)

Chuck also helped babysit little brother Smith while I took a shower and got dressed. I really think Smith enjoyed it.

Then Dr. returned from his test and we got to see him for a day. He then scurried off to work to cover shifts for someone who had a death in the family. Yes, gone four days, home one, gone six more days. (Currently on our 6th weekend as a trio.)

So now Chuck is better (although still coughing) and Smith is sick. This virus has officially been in our house over a week. Smith, of course, has been having a hard time kicking it. He was sleeping through the night (a 2week run ~ I just haven't mentioned it out of fear I would jinx myself). The past several days he has not kept down most of his bottles although we are getting better each day. He has refused to nap, refused to be put down, and waking up hungry at night since he didn't take all of his bottles. He's had it pretty rough because his teething ran straight into this virus so he has not been himself for about a week and a half.

We can't slow down though~ for fear we may breakdown and go insane. Yesterday Chuck lost TV privileges since he won't get out of the car in the mornings. During our screen free afternoon we broke out the sprinkler for the first time this spring.

Today to keep ourselves busy we ventured to the zoo. I keep thinking I need to join a gym and then I laugh at myself after I strap a 19 pound baby onto the front of me while pushing a 35 pound child in a stroller up and down hills all around the zoo. If that isnt a workout i am not sure what is! Seriously.

After the zoo we came home and ate a cupcake (just for the hell of it ~ I told Chuck he got to pick what we did today and eating a blue cupcake was on the list). We went on a safari outside. And we painted a card board box. I mean why not?

Normalcy

Dr. flies out tomorrow to take his oral boards.  He will be gone several days.  Please send prayers, or happy thoughts his way or if you are a finger/toe/arm crosser then start getting everything crossed!  There was a quote I read that fits the life of a doctor's family perfect - "Expectation is the root of all disappointment."  -  Whether schedules interfere with events or a shift last longer than it is supposed to, something is always going to missed but after these boards I am secretly hoping for a somewhat normal life ( as in we get to see or spend time with dad) yet I'm telling myself not to create any expectations!  I mean, I think Dr. has held Smith a total of 10 minutes in the last month.  I think Smith is following the same path Chuck took.  For a while Chuck refused to go to Dr. or be left alone with him and now every time Smith sees Dr. he sticks out his bottom lip and he likes to yell if Dr. does try to hold him. Ugh.

The boys and I will be here fighting Chuck's 102 fever ( have I ever mentioned he refuses medicine?  Awesome).  I'm not sure how this weekend will go.  I have a feeling Chuck will "need" me every 2 seconds and Smith will continue to freak out if I put him down.  Trust me, I have tried putting him down and just letting him cry but seriously... who can stand crying and what did he ever do to deserve to be shut in a room all alone.  The crying drives me and Chuck bananas and makes our stress sky rocket ( which in the end is not a pretty sight) and the poor kid just wants to be in on the action.

So send good vibes Dr.'s way and good vibes Chuck's way!  Hopefully we can beat these things!  ( the test and the fever)
