I have to make our Dallas trip several different blog posts because of all the pictures.
This trip reminded me how vacation is not really vacation at all for mom. We did a lot of fun things, but looking back I am questioning why I decided to go.
Dr. was taking a class for his boards that he takes in 2 weeks in Chicago. He thought since he had a suite that we could take advantage of it. He meant me take the boys to do things.... Not "let's have some family time". We did drag him out to eat dinner but the rest of the time he was busy.
I knew I could not successfully do anything fun on my own. It would get done, it just would not be pretty. In steps Becca, who is in Dallas. There has not been much Becca time as of recent, mainly because whenever I get to see her I'm always having to tend to a child. You all know that when you have a child there is never conversation that happens without interruption. For some reason I actually thought this time would be like old times. Wait... I have a three year old.
Anyway, Becca saved the trip and was pretty much Chuck's chaperone. It is so important to me to make sure I take Chuck to do fun things. Without Becca, this would have not happened or if it did, it would not have been fun! I'm so blessed to have people like Becca and Chuck's teacher, Mrs. Sam, ( just to name two) that help me give the boys special experiences. Anyway...
Here's what we did on our trip to Dallas-
We got there (after a successful non-crying drive) and I took the boys to Bass Pro Shop for TWO HOURS (stick a fork in me) to climb on boats and look at fish and stuffed (by a taxidermist) animals.
Then we headed to the room to find dad. After a few TV shows and dad finishing up some notes, we went and ate at the Rainforest Cafe. I was mistaken. Our three year old has not reached the age that we can go out to eat. He was distracted (for a tiny second) by all the animals moving and the fact we were eating in a jungle next to a fish tank. He was mesmerized by ChaCha the tree frog.
Which led us to this... A tree frog hat with gloves that are attached. He calls it his "costume". At first I thought it was ridiculous that he picked this out but watching him play and use his imagination is hilarious. He says "mom don't laugh at me". I have to explain that I'm laughing because I am happy.
That night Smith slept in a crib in one room. I shared a bed with Chuck and Dr. had a bed. I got 2 hours (at the very most) of sleep because I had a 4 month old waking up to eat and being woken up by the prom (yup, prom) downstairs. Also, I was sharing a bed with a three year old who insisted on sleeping upside down and resting his feet on my face/ forehead/cheek/ear, etc. I also was holding onto the edge of the bed for dear life. Needless to say I was beyond tired and thank goodness for Becca.
In walks my life saver. We got up the next morning. Becca met us at the hotel and we took the kids to Cracker Barrel (cue stuffing food quickly in mouth).
-notice the cape-
Smith napped for some of it. Thank goodness!
