Hanging in the Crib

Since Chuck is back at school and settled into his routine, I have moved Smith into his own bedroom during the day!  I knew the whole crib sleeping might take a while so decided to start early.  He took about an hour nap in his crib before we went to get Chuck ( I say "nap" even though he sleeps all day no matter where he is!)  Tonight, he ate and I wrapped him in a Swaddle Me blanket and put him in bed at 6.  It is 8 p.m. right now and Smith is still asleep... in his crib.... laying flat!  It took us four months for that to happen with Chuck.  I realize that Smith could possibly be up for a while tonight but really, who am I kidding, sleep is overrated.  I am not sleeping anyway so I figured I might as well do the crib transition.

Dr. comes home from work tomorrow morning and is home for a day before he goes back. January is not too bad since he has every weekend off ( except two Sundays)!  This is a huge change since in the past he has worked nights and weekends!

Chuck has always been a mama's boy but I guess because he is getting older or maybe because dad is around more, he is really getting hooked on his daddy.  It may be because I am so hard on the kid and expect so much from him.  Either way, he asks about his dad all the time now.  When he was younger, he would freak out if he couldn't see me.  Chuck has moved on and now and will go to our neighbors houses with our neighbors ( and without me) to play with the dogs, he enjoys spending the night with his Aunt Koko, and even asks to stay with daddy when I have to go to the store or run an errand.   I 'm actually glad I am not as cool as he once thought I was!  Makes my life a little easier!

Routines!

I might be the happiest person on Earth!  Chuck started back to school today.  Actually, he may be the happiest person.  I don't know.... it's probably a toss up.

Chuck has actually been doing wonderful with the new addition to the family.  I think Smith is also glad Chuck is back at school so Chuck will stop smothering him with kisses and hugs.  Considering Chuck has been locked in the house for two weeks, he has done relatively well with minimal to no tantrums.  I think we are all ready to be back on our "normal" schedule ( +1)!

Sunday was my first day alone with the boys.  Thank goodness Smith is still sleeping all the time ( I mean sleeping all day).  Smith insists on staying awake all night.  Awesome!  Anyway, we made it through Sunday unscathed and even got laundry done and some of the house cleaned.

Last week, Smith had his two week check up and was down a pound.  At two weeks you should be back up close to birth weight.  The doctor wanted to do a weight check today to see what his weight was doing.  He instructed me to feed every two hours day and night to make sure he was getting enough.  I was shocked because he looked bigger to me but doctor's orders!

Smith and I went back this morning and checked the weight.  Smith was born at 8lb 6 oz but weighed in last week at 7lb 8 oz.  The doc wanted him at least at 7lb 12 oz today.  This kid weighed in at almost 10 pounds.  Sooooo apparently the nurse we had last week ( which I didn't care for in the first place) weighed him wrong.  So I have been sitting here day and night feeding my TEN pund baby every two hours.  That's a fat kid's dream! Sigh.  Maybe I will sleep tonight after the measly hour I got last night.

Smith Allen Weber

Looks like the blog is back up friends!

Smith Allen Weber made his debut on December 20,2012. The night before, I started feeling consistent pressure around 6 pm. It had turned to pains by 9 but I was still doubting myself. MK had been in town to "babysit" me while dr. was working out of town. She was scheduled to go home that day but decided to stay one more night. At about 11pm we all decided to go to bed. After tossing for an hour, I realized there was no way I was going to sleep. I got MK up and we timed my "contractions" although at this point I was still doubting whether or not they were contractions! It seemed I was consistently having them every 3 minutes for 45 seconds. I called the answering service and they told me to do what I thought was best. (Go in to labor and delivery or wait it out).

I was becoming more uncomfortable do woke Dr. up and he drove me to the hospital. I was only 2cm but was definitely having contractions. Unfortunately they could not admit me until I reached about 4 cm. They told me to go home or walk the halls for two hours. I decided to walk because pain wise, going home was not an option. I could only walk for 45 minutes before standing up was not an option. I got back in a bed in triage and moaned for another hour. After that two hour window they checked my progress and I had dilated all the way to 7 cm!

They immediately moved me to a room and I had about 5 nurses racing around getting labs, putting in an IV, hooking up monitors. At this point my contractions started coming on strong. I was having back labor which I did not have with Chuck. I was only feeling contractions in my back and it felt like someone kept breaking my back.

As they were waiting for labs to come back so i could get an epidural, they dosed me up on morphine which didn't even touch the pain! I started to worry that we were going to miss the window for the epidural. The anesthesiologist was waiting outside the door for the labs. As soon as we got them, he pretty much ran in and shoved the epidural in my back. I think shortly after that, I professed my love to him. Dr. didn't seem to mind. I think he was just happy I had stopped screaming, cursing, and crying!

I got my epidural at 6 am and at 12:33pm, Smith Allen Weber was born. He was a perfect 8lb 6oz (exactly 2pounds bigger than his brother!). He was 19 1/2 inches long. Once we had the epidural, it was a very unevenly full delivery. We stayed in the hospital 24 hours before we were released to the real world!

Tomorrow, Smith will be 2weeks old! Now for a plethora of pictures. Unfortunately all my pictures on my phone got erased but these will do for now until
I can charge my computer and can get the pictures that I was able to reclaim.

Cozy

Apparently Smith is not ready to make an appearance. He has dropped a lot but we have not made any other progress. We have scheduled induction for January 2nd just in case he is being stubborn. Dr. has four days off then so I decided to go ahead and grab a spot for induction while I could. It would be a blessing if this baby came next Wednesday when Dr. has 8 days off!

Progress

Baby Smith is still hibernating. We have gone from 1cm to 2cm so at least we are making some progress. The waiting game continues. It is up to the little guy I guess! Next appt is next Thursday, same time same place unless Smith decides otherwise!

Nearing the End!

I have not had time to sit down and address the absence of pictures.  I did want to give an update on what is going on here!

We have a doctor's appt tomorrow at 1:00 to see if we are progressing and getting any closer to meeting our second son!  I have had good days and bad days, and good days that have turned into bad days.  We are watching my blood pressure closely.  As of now, we have had no pressure problems but know that can change in a heartbeat.  I have been trying to rest this week which has given me the energy to be mommy after school.

Last weekend was pretty rough on me.  Saturday we had a good day but by Saturday night I was pretty sure I was going into labor.  Chuck's teacher took him on Sunday so I could rest.  If she hadn't done that, I am pretty sure we would have a family of four by now!  She is such a life saver.

Smith has been pretty rowdy lately.  A couple of times I have been worried that he was going to break my water because of the intense movement!  I think Smith is getting just as anxious to meet Chuck as Chuck is to meet him!

I have done the majority of my nesting.  All Christmas shopping is done and wrapped ( neighbors, teachers, cats, etc)  Chuck's schedule and "how to" guide is posted in the kitchen for our neighbors and marmee/poppy.  I have told him that he may have to go to his teachers house until someone can come get him.  His teacher has been shown the extra key just in case he has to spend the night at her house.  It's all been planned.  All baby clothes have been washed and baby stuff is set up in my closet for when Smith comes home.  Now, Dr. is apparently nesting.  Dr. has had a few days off but goes back to work on Friday ( just in time for the weekend...)

Chuck has been having fun at school.  I am not sure if I have mentioned it but his class has adopted a grandpa and grandma for Christmas instead of an angel tree.  They are doing crafts for their grandma and grandpa and bringing them presents for the next few weeks.  Yesterday, Chuck and I went shopping for some fruit for them and today for some gatorade.  The nursing home staff delivered wreaths to grandma and grandpa made out of handprints today and they said that our grandma and grandpa started crying.  Most of the items on the list are food but Chuck and I are going to go and pick them out each a blanket tomorrow.  Yesterday Chuck asked if he could go see his grandpa and he meant his adopted one!  They talk about it everyday and work on wrapping the presents.  It is SO incredibly sweet.  We are hoping to adopt them for the rest of the year!

I will make sure I send an update after out appt tomorrow!  Stay tuned...
